Cassie Krupa, Mother of 6 from Okatie, SC!

"Oh, where to start... Not that there aren't so many people who are so very deserving...there are! But, let me tell you a little about "our story". My husband, Brian and I just celebrated (well, actually...didn't) our 8th anniversary apart. In fact, most of them have been apart. We have been truly blessed with 6 of the most amazing children you could ever meet. True gifts from God! However, October 2009 I was put on bed rest during my pregnancy with our twin boys and endured several complications as I was only 22 weeks pregnant at the time. Needless to say this also meant that I could no longer work which had a huge financial impact on our famly. My husband never complained, was just supportive in every way possible. He took up a third job to take on the additional financial strain which also meant our 4 children and I never saw him.

Shortly after, my body was getting closer and closer to delivering our babies...this was way too early. So, I was put in the hospital on "bed rest" with several medications running through my body 24 hours a day in attempt to prolong my pregnancy. On December 2nd, I was then rushed to MUSC in Charleston by ambulance (alone) as it was evident my body was just not going to hold this pregnancy much longer. On December 5, 2009 we welcomed Cross & Christian Krupa into this world at 27 weeks, weighing each just 2lbs. 6oz. & 2lbs. 7oz. I had an emergency c-section which left me on the 5th floor while our precious preemies were rushed to the NNICU on the 8th floor. I barely got a glimpse of them. Though it was certainly not the pregnancy we had planned, it was definitely the one God had planned as it became quite clear on their 2nd day of life when I finally got to have Brian take me in a wheel chair to meet our babies...that this was not just about our boys. There were 30+ families who had precious preemies, most of whom were without hope or not even coming to visit at all.

Anyway, I won't go into all the details but I will say that we came as close as you possibly can to losing both boys at different times but by God's grace, I'm happy to say that after 78 long days away from my four other children and husband...we did in fact bring BOTH Cross & Christian home! Praise God! While the road has had many bumps in it, it has been well worth it. We have a total of 11 therapy appointments each week for the boys which we have done without fail every week since they came home. Those include OT, PT, speech, and early intervention. We also travel back to MUSC every 3 months for their High Risk appointments, kidney stones, and cardiologist (Cross still has a hole in his tiny little heart). But, they are doing well because of all the wonderful doctors and therapists. I realize there are a great many who did not get to bring their beautiful babies home. We do know how very blessed we are and while I try my best to always remember that, it is tough...I cannot lie. I work 6 day a week and have 6 children to love and nurture each and every day. My husband and I work 100% opposite schedules so that we do not have to add the additional expenses of childcare on top of everything it takes to support a family of 8.

Flash forward to these past few weeks...again, we have had another blessing as my husband was promoted to sales with Marriott Vacation Club where he had been working for a short nine months in marketing (which also took him away from the kids and I every weekend which also meant he could no longer attend church with us where we are very active...that hurt me the most but again, God had a greater plan). With this promotion, he now has Sundays off but along with it also came three weeks of intense training which has taken him away from us to Orlando leaving me here to juggle my hair clients, 11 therapy appointments for our boys, 6 children, 2 jobs, 2 youth groups I help lead, & work the business expo for Stephens Compounding Pharmacy at The Westin last week all day Tuesday and Wednesday -  which also had me miss our daughter's 17th birthday all together.

While I am most certainly not complaining and I do know there are others far more deserving...I cannot tell you what it would mean to actually have even the smallest bit of quality time with my best friend, my husband. As you can imagine...with all we have going on, it has been tough, even down right hard at times but through it all, I have this amazing man who works day in and day out for our family and it would be the greatest gift to have this time to spend with him!"

Sincerely,

Cassie Krupa, Okatie, SC
