Lowcountry Seafood Experience on the Water

Two of the Lowcountry's foremost watermen, Christopher and Matthew Shoemaker, will take a few  lucky islanders on a 2 hour excursion. The trip will include instruction on shrimping, oystering, clamming, and crabbing.

Sunset Dolphin Nature Cruise

Cruise west out of Harbour Town and across Calibogue sound into the setting sun. Along the way you will hear and see about many points of interest as well as our friends the Atlantic Bottle Nose Dolphin. Our course will take us across the sound along the intra-coastal waterway, the Cooper River and then finally up Bull Creek to the Dolphin Hole. We'll see and talk about the islands that make up Calibogue Sound, the Haig Point Lighthouse, Strahn Mansion, slave quarters, and the low country saltwater marshland. We'll aslo visit with and discuss the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. This a perfect way to end the day and a great cruise for adults and children. RBC Heritage PGA Tour

The 46th RBC Heritage will take place April 14-20, 2014 at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. Make plans now to "Get Your Plaid On!" Since that humble beginning, the tournament, of course, has changed with the times. From those early Thanksgiving dates, it's been moved to a more advantageous date, the week after the Masters in April.   The purse mushroomed from the original $100,000 (with Palmer winning only $20,000) to $5.8 million in 2014.  The crowds and media exposure have also kept pace. Some 100,000 fans attend the tournament each year, with CBS and The Golf Channel blocking out 15 hours of live TV coverage.

Spend a morning learning how to throw a cast net, cast a line and catch a crab in the marshes of Jarvis Creek. Led by an experienced fisherman, this family oriented program is hands on and fun for all ages. Find out about many of the creatures that live in our salt marshes and what's the best way to catch them. $20 per person. Reservations are required.

Salt Marsh Discovery

Fridays - Ongoing Throughout Year

As one of the most productive environments on the planet, the Salt Marsh functions as a filter and nursery for the coast. On this hands on tour, you will see live oysters, crabs and shrimp up-close. You will learn how to trap and harvest blue crabs, how marsh plants adapt to the salt water, and why we should protect this interesting ecosystem from a docent at the Coastal Discovery Museum. Reservations required.
 

Exploring Pinckney Island

Thursdays -  Ongoing Throughout Year

A brief historical and natural history overview led by a Docent with the Coastal Discovery Museum will be followed by a walking tour of this National Wildlife Refuge including salt marsh and maritime forest. Wildlife may include variety of birds, alligators and marsh inhabitants. Reservations required.

Shelter Cove Farmers Market
